Traditional Bread Pudding

One of my favourite desserts happens to be the good old dessert....bread pudding.
Bread pudding or bread and butter pudding is an old favourite throughout the world.

Traditionally famous in Britain since the 13th century, this recipe has had it's fair share of "vamping up" over the years. Newer recipes have included adding Whiskey, fruit such as raspberries and even marmalade to spice up the old fashioned bread pudding.

For those of you who have never had bread pudding before, bread pudding is made from bread with an egg like custard.

I do recommend that you should try it once in your lifetime, as you could be missing out on one special pud!

Break up slices of bread into chunks, and with the sultana's sprinkle into the dish to fill below 1/2 inch below the top of the dish.
In a bowl, combine eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla with a mixer.
Pour the liquids over the bread and sultana's.
Dab small knobs of butter on to the top of the pudding.

Scrummy Homemade Desserts you can take credit for

It is truly heaven on a plate to create a dessert for your family. We all have wanted a "sugar fix", not just in a form of a candy but something more hearty, something that gives you that pure indulgence feeling.........the need for a dessert feeling.

How many of us have looked in the pantry or recipe book to look for something to make or even better...something you WANT to eat!

This has been me almost every week. Yes, desserts are my most favourite meal in the world. Who ever said that a little indulgence is wrong- not me!

Below is a recipe that my mother used to make for us kids when we were young. This to me is "comfort food", you know the kind that when you have a mouthful, it transports you back to when you  were a child and how you felt when you were eating that dessert! My mouth is watering as I think about it now.

This recipe is a result from my mother experiencing in the kitchen one day using only what she had in the cupboard.

Mum's Chocolate Pudd

Place in a saucepan
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 Cup flour
  • 2 Tbsps cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp mixed spice (opt)
  • 1 Cup sugar
Add slowly to ingredients 1 litre milk, stirring constantly. Add 25gms butter then place on medium heat until mixture combines and thickens for about 10-15 minutes.

Best served with cream!

This recipe is for the more traditional cook.

It is absolutely wonderful to produce a dessert or cake that your family enjoys, but what if you wanted to make a dessert for a dinner party with many people to impress?
Maybe you want to take your dessert cooking skills a step further and you would like to try something more daring?

I decided to do just that one day. I wanted to push my dessert making skills for a dinner party. I had chosen to create a checkered cake, but i did not know where to begin, let alone, how to make the center checkered!
After searching the net for a recipe I had struck gold when I found a website that not only gave me a recipe, but showed me step by step on a video how to make my checkered masterpiece.

The cake was a huge hit with all. Impressed with my achievement I decided to push on with my dessert creations. I went back to the website that helped me previously to see what else I could turn my newly developed skills to, maybe a Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Lava cake, Panna Cotta dessert or a Black Forest cake all are so mouth watering!

The Website........

With my desserts literally turning heads at parties, I never knew how much of a skill I had learn't until one day I was contacted by a person who was another guest at a party we both attended and he asked if I was able to make his wifes favourite dessert for Valentines day, then the shock set in when he offered to pay me $350 for the cake!!! Of course I agreed :)

Shortly after that I was approached by a woman who was preparing for a dinner and wanted me to make a Chocolate Gateau, she in turn paid me $400 for that cake.

I had asked them why did they not go to a professional cake decorator for their orders and both of them replied with...."I thought you were a professional cake decorator".

Never did I ever realise that they were classed as "professional" desserts! I also never thought that I could earn a living from something I love to make and EAT!

This website has helped me unleash a creativity with pastry that turns heads everytime I make a dessert. I always have people asking me "where did you buy that from?" and it is really gratifying to say "I made it".

If you want to impress at your next dinner party or to just make something special for your family then you should check this website out and unleash your creativity too! To check out that website Click Here!
